South Sudan School Project

In 2011, one of our club members approached the club to ask our help in building an elementary school in his home village of Abouk, South Sudan. A commitment of $30,000 was made to support the construction and furnishing of this school. As of April 11, 2013, we have met our fundraising target, and we continue to make progress in construction.

As a student-run organization, the University of Lethbridge Rotaract Club strongly values the opportunity of education. The children of South Sudan, our world’s newest nation, also understand the importance of education. The children of Abouk do not have access to a school within a 20 km radius, and they do not have transportation to schools in neighbouring villages. To give more children the opportunity to attend school, our Rotaract Club is financing the construction and furnishing of an elementary school that will give 600 local children the opportunity to receive the valuable education they so strongly desire. The youth that are educated today will lead the nation from independence to true freedom – liberty through literacy.
