ULink is here!

The student web portal has officially been named as ‘ULink’ and can be accessed at Congratulations to Sue Kovach, Scholarships and Student Finance, for winning the campus-wide naming contest and receiving an iPad mini.

The new name was formally announced by Dr. Andrew Hakin, Provost and Vice-President (Academic), at the Technology Services ULink LogoSpotlight held on November 25 in the Atrium. As part of this initiative, a new and exciting logo has been created.

Your input is valuable in helping us continually improve the student experience. Feedback can be submitted via the blue feedback buttons in the ULink web portal or the mobile app.

We have a winner!

Some of you may have submitted names during our portal naming contest and many of you voted for your favorite name.

(Drumroll) The winner is…
… going to be announced on November 25th at our technology services spotlight!

The technology services spotlight:
When: 11:45 a.m. – 2 p.m., November 25
Where: Atrium (W600), Lethbridge Campus

There will be interactive technology-focused activities and displays about the portal, Information Technology Services (ITS), Moodle, the testing centre, uLeth toolkit app, assistive technologies, and more! There will also be free carnival-style food – cotton candy, popcorn, candy apples, soft pretzels and mini corn dogs – and U of L swag giveaways!

At 12 p.m., Andy Hakin, provost and vice-president (academic), will unveil the new name and logo for the student portal. He will also announce the winner of the naming contest – who will receive an iPad Mini. Could it be you?

Notice of service interruption: At 8 a.m. on November 25th, the student portal will be taken down to implement changes for a new name. The portal will be back up sporting a new look at the time of the announcement which will occur around noon. Information on accessing the portal from your mobile phone after the renaming can be found here.

Vote for your Fave

We asked the University community to name the portal and the response was phenomenal. We were thrilled by the quality of the entries; we received so many thoughtful and creative options!

Our judging panel—representing a number of groups across campus—evaluated all submissions and came up with a shortlist of names that best represent the portal and the University of Lethbridge.

Now, it’s time to vote for your favourite name! You can only vote once, so make sure to choose the name you feel best represents our new portal. If you are a U of L student, faculty, or staff, you can submit your vote between September 30 and October 5, 2014.

The new name of the portal and the winner of the iPad Mini will be announced shortly after voting ends. Make sure you check the portal, our portal blog and electronic screens around campus.

Portal naming contest now closed

Our portal naming contest has drawn to a close and we are thrilled to announce that we received more than 300 name submissions from students, faculty, and staff! A BIG thank you to those of you who participated — we received a number of unique and creative entries. Our panel of judges now has the difficult task of compiling a shortlist!

Voting will start September 29th and close on October 5th, but we will send more details about voting once we announce the shortlist.

Stay tuned: check the portal, portal blog, and the electronic messages around campus for additional information.

It is also time for another service upgrade; therefore, the Bridge and the portal will periodically be down between 11:00pm on Tuesday, September 23 until approximately 7:00am on September 24, 2014. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We hope you’ve had a chance to check out our recently launched student portal.

Now, we need your help—the portal needs a name!

We are launching a contest to find the best, most representative name; the winner will receive an iPad Mini (or equivalent)!

Starting today until September 21, 2014, all U of L students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit their distinct and innovative entries. Please read our official contest rules and regulations at

At the conclusion of the submission period, a judging panel will review proposed names and provide a shortlist for you to vote on. Watch for more information on the electronic screens around campus and in the portal.

We are excited to see your creative and original suggestions!

Over the summer, we have been working on improving the student experience. In addition to implementing a student portal and moving to Google Apps for Education for your email, we also developed a mobile app to make it even easier to navigate through the portal. The app can be downloaded on the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store, and you can also get the app through the portal.

The uLethbridge mobile app provides you with most of the same functionality as the portal including single sign-on, Moodle and Google Mail & Calendar. You will also have easy access to faculty and departmental information, a campus map, security and emergency information, upcoming deadlines and view the latest news from around campus. Your student account, Bridge Bucks and dining plan balances or also at your fingertips.

Given that this is the first version of the app and the portal, we welcome your feedback to enhance both systems! Simply provide feedback using the feedback buttons located in the portal and the app.

There will be a naming contest as we think the portal deserves a much better name. Students, staff and faculty are invited to submit potential names from September 10-21, 2014 for a chance to win an iPad Mini (or equivalent)! Please keep watching this blog, electronic screens, and the portal for more information about the contest.

Exciting Portal & Mobile App Updates!

Congratulations to all the Portal Feedback Contest winners! We’ve received over a hundred feedback submissions, which will be used to drive new features in the portal. Even though the contest is over, please keep the submissions coming as we are always interested in your opinions and ideas.

Many people have asked about a mobile version of the portal, and we are excited to be launching a mobile application later in August! Stay tuned for more information, including how you can download the app on your smartphone.

To integrate the portal with the upcoming app, we will be performing a service upgrade on the portal and therefore it will be unavailable on August 12, 2014 from 11:00pm to midnight and again on August 13, 2014 from 5:00am to 7:00am. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks again for using the portal!

Bridge Bucks Service Upgrade!

We would like to congratulate Kimberley Bates and Amanda Raby for winning the portal feedback contest, week 4 and 5, respectively. Thank you for your contributions!

We have received very helpful feedback over the past weeks, and we would like to reassure you that it is being appreciated and that we are trying to incorporate your suggestions! We will keep giving out $100 gift cards over the summer, so continue submitting constructive feedback using the blue feedback button within the portal!

If you are using Bridge Bucks for any transactions on campus, please note that it will be unavailable on June 26, 2014 from 6:00am to approximately 1:00pm due to a service upgrade. During that time, you will not be able to use your Bridge Bucks as a form of payment for any kind of purchase or transaction (food, laundry, books, printing, copying, etc.). In addition, financial information concerning your Bridge Bucks will not be visible in the Student Portal during that downtime. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We value the feedback we have been receiving over the past weeks. One feature that has been requested is Google Apps for Education and we are happy to announce that it is finally here!

All students have now been migrated to Google and we’ve added windows into your Google Inbox and Calendar within the portal. Also provided are quick links for composing a new email and viewing your contacts, and you can access your full Google Mail through single sign-on. We are also providing you with 500 times more email storage, a vastly improved user interface, and better anti-spam controls. The advantage with Google Apps for Education is that, unlike Google Gmail, you will have the same email address you currently have and will not see any advertising within your user profile.

Check it out and let us know what you think. We still have a variety of $100 gift cards to be given out over the summer, so take the time to submit constructive feedback using the blue feedback button within the portal!

Google Mail is Coming!

Congratulations to Sam Woodman for winning the portal feedback contest, week 2. We value your participation!

Feedback over the past weeks has been excellent, and we would like to encourage you to continue providing us with constructive feedback within the portal to be entered into the weekly draw for a $100 gift card. Continuously submitting constructive feedback throughout the summer will increase your chances of winning! We would like to ask you to consider the following questions in your response:

  1. What features or links would you like to see in the portal?
  2. Do you like the current layout of content and features or would you categorize them differently?
  3. Have you been experiencing any issues getting everything working properly?

Your feedback is appreciated and will be used to define upcoming features.

Integration with Google mail is coming the week of June 9, 2014 and will include windows into your Google Inbox and Calendar within the portal! You will have quick links for composing a new email, viewing your contacts, and more, and most importantly, you will be able to access these Google tools through single sign-on.

In order to provide you with this functionality, the portal will be offline from 6:00am to 7:00am on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. During this brief down time, you will still be able to access The Bridge, Moodle, and other systems.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please note that you will not be able to access Google mail and the Calendar within the portal until June 9, 2014.
