  • The University of Lethbridge has its own greenhouse to grow most of the flowers you see around campus. It’s maintained by the Grounds department that seeds flowers and plants at the beginning of the year and nurtures them until they are ready to be planted in the spring. In the fall, perennial plants such as geraniums are harvested and maintained in the greenhouse over the winter for planting again in the spring. In total, more than 8,000 plants were seeded in 2011.
  • Since 2005 (when new bottle recycle bins were introduced), revenue from recycled bottles and cans has increased from an average of $387 per month (about 7,740 cans) to $947 per month (18,940 cans). All proceeds are given to the Student Union for student scholarships.
  • About 72,000 kg of paper and cardboard is recycled annually at U of L.
  • The Caretaking department composts approximately 800 gallons of material per month.
  • More than 5,000 florescent light tubes are recycled on campus every year.
